Kurt's Last Day of Work at Openwave March 21st, 2003 |

I'm unemployed! For the first time since college I am without work and not actively looking for a new job. In preparation to move to Japan in April I have quit my job at Openwave Systems after just over seven years of employment with this company. My years at Openwave (previously Software.com) were some of the most interesting and exciting of my life. I joined the company when it was just a startup consisting of a handful of people working in the basement of a bookstore. At the company's height we had well over 2000 employees and a market capitalization in the billions of dollars. The company has since suffered much in the dot com crash of 1999/2000. Through up and down I experienced a company's growth from startup to large corporation and I would not exchange the experience for any other professional opportunity. Now though, it is time to head off to a new adventure. It's time to pack the family and catch a plane to Japan, to begin a new and interesting life in a fascinating country with wonderful people. Goodbye Openwave... I will always hold fond memories of my years with you.
